York House GOP Delegation Votes to Impeach Philadelphia DA
November 16, 2022
HARRISBURG- The York County Republican delegation to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted today to impeach District Attorney Larry Krasner, citing his role in Philadelphia’s skyrocketing crime rates as cause for action.
The vote comes after a thorough investigation into the city’s crime and violence problems that revealed the impacts of Krasner’s mismanagements of the district attorney’s office and his soft-on-crime philosophy. Krasner’s presence in this role has exacerbated the crisis in Philadelphia, putting the people of Philadelphia, and the entire Commonwealth at risk.
The delegation, consisting of House Appropriations Chairman Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion); House State Government Committee Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover); House Game and Fisheries Committee Chairman Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam); and Reps. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg) and Mike Jones (R-York Township), issued the following statement:
“During Krasner’s term in office, violent crime, property crime and shootings have all increased. Nearly half the state’s criminal activity now occurs in Philadelphia. Convictions have decreased significantly, and more repeat offenders are being set free. This surge in crime is a direct result of the district attorney’s negligence.
“The decision to approve Krasner’s impeachment was not taken lightly. As a district attorney, he must understand that no one is above the law; and as elected officials, we are responsible for the safety of our constituents.
“Krasner has also failed to uphold the constitution and his oath of office. His inaction and unwillingness to enforce the laws on the books have cost many Pennsylvanians their lives. This disregard for our laws and public safety cannot be ignored.”
With the passage of House Resolution 240 to impeach Krasner, the process now moves to the state Senate which must conduct a trial. Conviction requires a two-thirds vote by that chamber.
